The American Board of Periodontology strives to Advance the Art and Science of Periodontics and Elevate the Quality of Periodontal care through education, examination and certification. The American Board of Periodontology is one of nine specialty boards recognized by the American Dental Association.

A periodontist specialises in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, and in placing dental implants. A Diplomate has completed rigorous examination beyond residency training — the highest level of certification in the specialty.

Former Chair and Director of the Division of Periodontics at Mayo Clinic, and a fellow of the International Team for Implantology. Specialises in esthetic periodontal and implant surgery.
