How to Keep Veneers White

They are bonded onto the front of your teeth to help recreate a "natural teeth" look. If used gently, porcelain veneers can last you more than a decade. However, wear and tear as a normal occurrence leads to the gradual weakening and damage of the porcelain veneers, reducing its life expectancy to about a decade. Nevertheless, during the period that you will have the veneers on, it is important to keep them clean and hygienic. This is one of the best ways to ensure its longevity.

Adapting Healthy Oral Practices

Getting veneers does not mean you stop taking care of your teeth in the manner you used to. In fact, you should keep brushing and flossing as you did your natural teeth. As much as veneers may not decay, the tooth that is underlying can discolor and decay. This will affect the hue of the veneer. Gum disease can also occur despite the presence of veneers. Whitening toothpaste can prevent porcelain veneers from stains and discoloring.

When flossing, do so with caution to prevent the possibility of breakage. Applying too much force when flossing or brushing teeth can result in a cracked or chipped tooth. Exposure to coffee, tea, wine, and other tooth-staining foods should be avoided. If you cannot, make an effort to brush or rinse your mouth immediately. Make sure to use nom-abrasive toothpaste and a toothbrush with soft brittles.

Avoid Smoking

Avoiding tobacco products can also ensure your veneers stay white. Not only is it bad for your health, but it also raises the chance of reducing the beauty and lifespan of your veneers. If you cannot lay off tobacco, make an effort to ask for stain-resistant veneers. In addition to these self-care tips, book an appointment with us at least every six months for cleaning and checkup.
